The government strives to protect the people and that is their responsibility. Privacy is important, but the security involved is essential. Just as within the real world, there are laws to protect the people while maintaining freedom. The people should be free and speak as they wish, but also feel safe and secure online. To protect the people it might include the government keeping an eye on possible threats or unencrypting a device to gather evidence or prevent a future crime. The world is a tricky place and therefore many have views on how the government should and shouldn’t act. I do believe guidelines help, but sometimes a grey area has to be explored to “serve and protect”.
Private sectors are held to a different standard and hold different responsibilities. They have rules and regulations to follow and while some might consider them the same as laws there are some differences. Private sectors are sometimes contracted by the government to help complete assignments, but overall they are responsible for their people. This makes their responsibilities separate while achieving the same goal.
