Read p. 314 of textbook, “Honeypots for Terrorists and Child Predators.”

Now, answer these critical thinking questions in your post:

1. What legal issues might be raised with the use of honeypots or honeynets?

2. Do you think honeypots should be used to a greater or lesser extent by law enforcement agencies; explain why or why not?

Privacy, entrapment, and possible unlawful data collection are the legal concerns surrounding honeypots and honeynets. While unintentionally gathering information from non-targets raises privacy concerns, entrapment could happen if law enforcement encourages illegal activity. Gathering and storing data from malicious users raises privacy and legal issues, particularly in cross-border hacking situations. While honeypots can help identify risks, their ethical and legal consequences require close supervision and strict rules to prevent power misuse.
