Participating in the LeADERS program allowed me to intentionally connect my academic experiences to my professional development. Through my cybersecurity internship, interdisciplinary writing course, and cybersecurity policy course, I developed critical skills that go beyond technical ability. These experiences taught me the importance of communication, critical thinking, adaptability, and strategic planning—all skills that are essential for success in cybersecurity and technology-related fields.

One common theme across all of my LeADERS experiences was the importance of flexibility and problem-solving. In my internship, I faced real-world challenges that required quick thinking and collaboration. In IDS 300W, I learned how to consider issues from multiple perspectives, improving my ability to adapt and find effective solutions. In CYSE 425W, I saw how cybersecurity strategy requires not just technical skills, but an understanding of policy, leadership, and long-term planning.

Each experience built on the others, helping me see the bigger picture of my professional identity. I am leaving ODU with not just academic knowledge, but the ability to apply that knowledge in real-world situations, work with diverse teams, and think critically under pressure. These skills have already begun shaping the kind of professional I want to be, and they will continue to guide me as I move forward in the cybersecurity field.
