Technology in a sense has become a crutch. Many people believe and appear to be more confident behind a screen. Bullying in school is still very sadly common, but that then translates online. Social media has made it so that people all over can comment on one’s life without even knowing them. Celebrities are a good example of this as they are famous, but people will go to comment and make derogatory comments without even liking them just because they can. Stalking does not just apply to random flowers showing up with notes about what you have done that day but also can be transferred online. People can track where you are based on posts, or following and like every single picture or tweet. Instead of getting random notes, it can increase to text messages from many fake numbers, fake profile messages, emails, and so on.

These examples are the dark side of being online. People can begin to feel like they know you and while they may not be accessible to stalk in person can follow your every movement online. Instead of everything being in one place and dealing with the issue head on there are thousands of ways to create a fake account making it very difficult to catch or stop. Seeing someone at school and getting bullied is very hard to process, but continuing online is why Meier took her life. Lori Drew barely socialized with the girl but had fake accounts and posts which the girl could not escape except by taking her own life. While that is not the only way, that is what the girl thought of at the time leading up to that tragedy.
