In this course, we focused on using theory to better understand real-world crime and policy better. For the final project, we picked a theory and a problem, then wrote a series of papers leading up to a full policy proposal.

I focused on domestic violence and used Braithwaite’s Reintegrative Shaming Theory. The first paper explains why I chose the theory, the second looks at current policies, and the third is a full proposal with recommended changes. This project helped me think critically about how theory can be used to improve criminal justice responses.

Theory Selection Paper

In this paper, I explain why I chose Reintegrative Shaming Theory and how it applies to domestic violence. I describe key concepts like shaming, reintegration, and the difference between stigmatizing and supportive responses to crime.

CRJS-426W-Theory-Summary-Section

Current Policy Summary

This assignment reviews how the criminal justice system currently responds to domestic violence. I highlight the focus on punishment and point out where current policies fall short when it comes to rehabilitation and lasting change.

CRJS-426W-Current-Policy-Section

Final Policy Summary

In this paper, I use Reintegrative Shaming Theory to suggest a new policy approach.
