This page highlights two major writing assignments completed for CYSE 406: Cyber Law. Each project required analyzing cybersecurity policy issues and communicating research findings in professional government-style memoranda. These assignments strengthened my ability to apply legal and regulatory concepts to real-world cybersecurity challenges while developing skills in technical writing and public policy research.

Assignment 1 – Data Privacy Issues

In this assignment, I wrote a professional memorandum to a hypothetical governor explaining the importance of data privacy and protection. The memo defined key concepts like biometric data, personally identifiable information (PII), and GDPR, and recommended specific types of personal data that a new state law should protect. It also analyzed the feasibility of adopting GDPR-like privacy laws at the state level.

Assignment 2 – Cybersecurity Legislation Research

In this assignment, I researched a proposed or recently enacted cybersecurity law and wrote a background memorandum for a U.S. Representative. The memo summarized the selected law, explained the cybersecurity threats it addresses, evaluated its effectiveness, and suggested how the legislation could be improved to better protect American citizens. This project emphasized communicating complex cybersecurity issues in a clear, policy-focused format.
