Why am I interested in cybersecurity? The main reason this field gains my interest is how complex the cyber world is and the fact that it is evolving every day is exciting to me. The feeling that not every day will be the same also draws me into wanting to learn more and gain more experience in cybersecurity.

            My initial interest in cybersecurity started with my parents who have transitioned into the IT field. I have also been talking to professionals in the field as I am continuing my education to gain an understanding of what sector in cybersecurity I want to focus on. Right now, I am focusing on Identity and Access Management and Risk Management. I am focusing on this sector in cybersecurity because I like the responsibilities associated with identity and access management with developing frameworks and policies to ensure users/employees have correct access and ensuring data is being used and stored correctly.

            From this internship I hope to gain more experience in risk management and consulting for companies when it comes to their cyber hygiene and cybersecurity. I also hope to gain more experience collaborating with others in my field.

            So far I have gained experience collaborating with other cybersecurity students in completing assignment and doing interactive activities. We completed a module with Karen Sanzo about critical thinking, empathy, and how to be creative. One activity I have participated in was teaming up with fellow classmates and creating a learning environment to out liking that could potentially be brought to life. We considered things like visual learning, artwork, temperature, student interaction, and resources to aid students. We have also met with the two businesses (Dr. Moss & Beth Vinson) that we will be assisting during this internship. We have gained an understanding of what they currently are working with when it comes to cybersecurity and cyber hygiene and also what they are struggling with and need to improve within their business security.
