Moving further with my experience in this internship, I have started to gain experience and skills related to speaking and consulting with potential clients/customers when it comes to cybersecurity assessments and making an effort to improve their cyber infrastructure. My partner and I stopped by four different companies/businesses in the ODU area and introduced ourselves as ODU students and cybersecurity interns, looking to spread cybersecurity awareness and help local businesses by providing a free cyber risk assessment that will not only reveal weak points and vulnerabilities but also recommend ways to improve their business when it comes to cybersecurity.
During this hands-on learning experience, we teamed up with Valor Cybersecurity, who aided us in created post-assessment reports for the businesses that followed through with the free cyber risk assessment. I enjoyed this part of the internship as it made me step out of my comfort zone and made me initiate more interactions with people. Next my team and I (Team Where Is God) met with our client, Dr. Gwendolyn Moss, and further discussed what she needs when it comes to her cybersecurity needs to keep her business secure. We included the top ten checklist from cybersecurity to ask her a series of questions about what she currently has in place to protect the assets and valuable information of her business.
I am looking forward to continuing this process in helping a local business in finding vulnerabilities and weak points within their business and improving their cybersecurity infrastructure.
