Final Reflection

Your First Semester

  • Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now.

I believe I have grown from a clueless freshman to a freshman who understands how important college is now.

  • What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain. My expectations this year was to pass every class with a B or higher and I believe I met those expectations except for one class maybe.
  • What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago? That finals week would be so stressful on the mental.

Study Habits

  • How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester? I spend about a good hour studying now when it comes to exams but in the beginning I was not studying just reviewing the information the day of.
  • How have your study habits changed? I spend more time studying now in a more efficient way.
  • Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester.  Monarch Onesearch is a great website from ODU used to find peer reviewed websites.
  • What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester? I will be taking more time out of my day to study and actually understand the material.

Health Professions Learning Community

  • This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.
    • On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between content, and subjects discussed. Discuss the ways in which  these courses are tied together. I feel like each class had a similar goal when it came to helping freshmen. From letting us talk to different professors to doing daily labs. They really wanted us to find out if our major was really what we wanted.

Parallel Plan

  1. This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea for possible parallel majors to your current intended major.
  • Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why? Psychology,Occupational therapy. Psychology because I am interested in the human brain and understanding why people act the way they do. Occupational therapy gives me a variety of therapies I can do.
  • What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place? It gives people a future plan to get ahead and will relieve stress in the long run.
  • How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major? These majors would help me understand the human body/brain more and educate me on different therapies to help people.
