SCADA systems play a critical role in monitoring and controlling infrastructure such as

power grids, water systems, and transportation networks. However, these systems also

have vulnerabilities that make them targets for cyberattacks. Understanding these

weaknesses and implementing proper security controls is essential to protecting critical

infrastructure.

Vulnerabilities in Critical Infrastructure Systems

Critical infrastructure systems depend on industrial control systems to manage important

services such as electricity, water treatment, gas pipelines, and transportation networks.

Because many of these systems are connected to modern networks and sometimes the

internet, they are vulnerable to cyber threats. Attackers may attempt to gain unauthorized

access, introduce malware, or exploit weak network protocols. According to the SCADA
