Journal Entry #8

It seems like every day, there is a new report or news story about a major cyber attack or data breach. These stories can be alarming and can make us feel like the threat of cybercrime is constantly looming over us.

But as I thought about it more, I realized that the media can also play a positive role in educating us about cybersecurity. Many news outlets and websites provide helpful tips and advice on how to protect ourselves online, such as using strong passwords, avoiding suspicious emails, and keeping our software up to date. These resources can help us stay informed and take steps to keep ourselves and our personal information safe.

In addition, the media can also raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and the need for businesses and governments to invest in security measures. This can help to create a broader cultural understanding of the importance of cybersecurity and the need for everyone to play a role in protecting against cyber threats.

Ultimately, I believe that the media can both draw attention to the risks posed by cyberattacks and offer valuable data and resources for self-defense. Although it’s critical to be cautious of potential biases and sensationalism in media coverage of cybersecurity, I believe that, on the whole, the media may be helpful in teaching us about this crucial subject.
