How does your major relate to cybersecurity technology? Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity.
Many people see cybersecurity as a term that describes measures taken to protect against the use of electronic data or trying to do so in a either criminal or unsactioned manner. However, after extensive research it has been found that specialists in this field don’t have one specific definition for this term and more often than not the term is used very broadly. This is not always a good thing because it is seen as having the potential to impede technological advances because it separates cybersecurity disciplines that should instead be working together to help fix and cybersecurity threats (Craigen). Based on the article Defining Cybersecurity by Dan Craigen, the definition of cybersecurity has many aspects including thinking of the term as an interdisciplinary domain, supporting inclusiveness in the themes of cybersecurity, considering cyberspace evolution, protecting against cyber events or hazards, and incorporating framework (Craigen). I am majoring in Cybercrime here at Old Dominion University so my major directly relates to the domain of cybersecurity. Throught my time in this major I even take multiple classes in the field of cybersecurity. In my major I am focusing on learning about cyberlaws which ties directly into the domain of cybersecurity, as well as criminal-justice issues related to technology and crime investigations involving tehnology. Other majors at ODU that relate to cybersecurity include Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cyber Operations, and Database Administration. Computer Science major focuses on things likesoftware development and prepares students for jobs in network administration of information security analysis which falls under the domain of cybersecurity. Computer Engineering which not only focuses on the hardware aspects of computers but also software aspects relating to cybersecurity. The Cyper Operations major is a complement of the discipline of cybersecurity and teaches skills in system attacks, defense, and recovery. The Database Administration major focuses on business analysis, as well as, system implementation skills that relate to IT and cybersecurity.
