I have an A in every class except chemistry Lab. I believe I am doing well in those classes because I am doing everything in my power to succeed. I study for the recommended amount of time, sometimes even more. If I am stuck on a concept, then I go to office hours. I also form study groups with my friends. Those study groups really help to clarify complications I am having and reveal issues I didn’t know I had. I listed Interpreting the American Past as the course I was having difficulty with in my learning styles self-assessment. Believe it or not, I ended up studying less. I found that I was working way harder than what was needed, which caused me to burn out. Studying less did help, because I currently have a 98 in the class.

2. When it came to my expectations post college, I was expecting to face impossible scenarios every day. While that may sound dramatic, I was homeschooled throughout high school, so I really had no idea what to expect. That expectation did not end up happening, or at least not yet. I have found that my course work is very manageable compared to my high school course work. The workload is significantly less than what I was expecting. I am most surprised that I have consistently made high grades all semester except for one grade in chemistry lab.

My biggest challenge moving away to college has been feeling homesick. I think about my family every single day and wish that I had gone to college closer to home. However, I ultimately think I made the right decision going to a university that is a bit of a drive from my parents. The easiest challenge to overcome has been making friends. I was nervous about my ability to make friends once I got to ODU. Yet, I have made a solid group of friends.

3. At the beginning of the semester I was aware that I would have to make good grades, but I had no idea that I would have to make almost perfect grades to be considered competitive for the nursing program. I wouldn’t say that my thoughts on nursing as a major have really changed. If anything, I now believe that becoming a nurse might not be as straight forward a path as I originally thought it could be. Currently, I don’t have another majors or minors that I am interested in learning more about.4. The biggest problem I faced this semester was my chemistry lab midterm. I scored a 63 on the test, which is a big problem for any major, but especially nursing. I do have an A on all other assignments, so I am hoping I will be able to get a B by the end of the semester. I do intend on going to office hours this Friday to find out if my professor has any tips for how I can start preparing for my final now to help balance out my grade. All my friends have helped me this semester. When I don’t understand an assignment, chances are, one of my friends do. I frequently as my friends questions about directions on assignments to see if they understand them better than I do. I attended an interest meeting for a leadership program on campus. However, I decided not to join because it was around the same time that I failed my chemistry lab exam. I just wanted to make sure that I have plenty of time

Joseph Bowman Brittani Garcia HLTH 101 Mid-Semester Reflection October 25, 2021 1. I am doing extremely well in most of my classes.
