What four other majors offered by Old Dominion University can be related to cybersecurity?
The four majors offered by Old Dominion University that I think are closely related to cybersecurity is Information Systems & Technology, Computer Science, Game Studies & Design, and Business Analytics. These four majors are in some way related to cybersecurity because they either work to protect data or work with data and assets that must be protected.
Information Systems & Technology is easily related to cyber security since it is one of the main things that a student in that major will have to learn or at least be aware about. It is important for students in that field to know about cybersecurity because in order to maintain the information systems they are working with, they must be able to protect it from foreign entities. Computer Science is about the same way. Students in computer science classes will need to know how to protect the technology they will be working with, either from destruction or theft, both of which possible without cybersecurity.
When it comes to Game Studies & Design and Business Analytics, it is a bit different but essentially the same reason. Video games have come a long way from being single player CRT TV experiences, they are now massive open worlds, competitive experience some being broadcasted on live TV, and online. While there may not seem to be a lot to steal from a virtual made up world, there are some games that have items or things in the game that are worth real money. Most of these online games also involve having users create an account, and some of these accounts require some personal information which can be valuable to attackers. Creators of online video games should be wary of their server and ensure that there is proper protection for their worlds and their visitors.
Business Analytics requires cybersecurity for data protection purposes. Of course things like employee information and customer vital information must be protected. However, many businesses consider assets to be things such as company plans, non vital customer information for selling purposes, and of course company sales data. Creating or maintaining a business idea is fun, exciting, and a new challenge for brave entrepreneurs. However, having assets stolen from you can be devastating and potentially the downfall of a business, which is why all business majors should learn or at least take cybersecurity in account for their business.
