SPAN 202

Introduction

Hi, My name is Jamauri Brown and I’m a senior at Old Dominion University. My major is Cinema and TV Production and I like to stream and play games in my spare time. My goals is to become an Actor or work behind the scenes like operating the camera. I enrolled in Spanish 202 because I wanted to continue strengthening my Spanish language skills and expand my ability to communicate with others in both personal and professional settings. Learning Spanish is important to me because I recognize how valuable it is to speak more than one language, especially in a country as diverse as the United States. I’m passionate about understanding other cultures, and I believe that learning Spanish allows me to connect more deeply with Hispanic communities and cultures. Beyond grammar and vocabulary, I see language as a tool for building relationships, bridging cultural gaps, and creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue. I plan to use Spanish in my future career, possibly in healthcare, business, or community work, where I can serve Spanish-speaking individuals with respect and empathy. Cultural proficiency matters because it promotes inclusion, awareness, and global thinking like qualities I strive to embody both professionally and personally.

Experience
Right now, my experience using Spanish outside the classroom is limited, but I’m excited to change that. This course helped me see the importance of applying Spanish in real-life situations, and I’m eager to seek out opportunities where I can grow. I understand that becoming fluent in Spanish requires practice beyond textbooks, and I’m committed to getting that practice through interactions. I believe true learning happens when you’re immersed in the language and culture, and I look forward to the confidence and understanding that will come from those experiences.

Transfer
Spanish has shown me how important language is across all areas of life. In Spanish 102, we discussed how cultural understanding affects community outreach and services. Spanish fluency adds value in nearly every profession, especially those centered on people. I’ve even seen job listings that shows Spanish proficiency as a preferred skill, especially in marketing, healthcare, and education. Being bilingual opens doors and makes me more adaptable in today’s workforce.
