-How does your major relate to cybersecurity technology?

Being a Communications major and working as an Information Systems Supervisor in the United States Army, I can honestly say that both fields are vastly different. My major mainly focuses on getting a message out to the masses through many different forms of media. While cybersecurity is about protecting information from the masses, attackers, and the wrong hands. However, in all fields of study, I believe it is important to know about cybersecurity and how you can benefit from knowing the basics of cybersecurity. In this day and age everything is moving to an online platform and it is important to protect yourself and your information while connecting to the internet.

-Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity.

Computer Science – For the obvious reasons, it is important to understand what your machine does and how it operates. With computer science you would be able to understand potential vulnerabilities, or the history of hardware vulnerabilities and how they were fixed.

Psychology – Psychology majors could possibly identify the motives to want to steal, damage, or erase important data from organizations, business, or individuals.

Business Administration- In business admin, students would need to understand the information they have access to in their company and why that information is important to safeguard and keep out of the wrong hands.

Criminology – Criminology majors could possibly dive into new laws and cases regarding damage or theft of sensitive information, and the outcome of those cyber attacks.

-Take fifteen minutes and find out everything you can about yourself by Googling your name. What would others learn about you?

I’ve done this one before and have even signed up for Google notifications whenever my name is published on a side or page. However, this time was interesting, as I found a new article a previous Professor of mine wrote about me, and my picture made it to the front page of a local publication that could be picked up on El Paso Community College campuses or even local restaurants. A few things that people would learn about me by Googling my name would be I am a soldier, I have children, I received my Associates from El Paso Community College, and I am a runner.
