Journal Entry 12: Review the article and write a paragraph describing the five most serious violations and why you think those offenses are serious.

What illegal things are you unwittingly doing on the internet? (clario.co)

Out of the eleven things that Andriy Slynchuk stated may be illegal, I believe that five of them are much more serious than the others. The first act that I consider to be the most serious is faking your identity online. It may be entertaining to deceive people and claim to be someone you aren’t, but doing so can lead to significant consequences. If a person were to actually use someone else’s social security number for any financial reasons and get caught, they would most likely face a lot of time in prison. Next, I believe that collecting information regarding children is very serious. I think that it is disturbing, deviant, and unacceptable. Additionally, getting caught doing this can negatively change a person’s reputation for the rest of their life. The next thing on the list that is very serious is the use of unofficial streaming sites for sports, entertainment, etc. Conveniently, there are many websites out there to accommodate prices and accessibility; however, there is always a downside to something so convenient. These illegal streaming sites are filled with ads and pop-ups that may contain viruses, malware, and other bad software that may harm the device that is being used. The fourth act that I find to be serious is sharing passwords, photos, and addresses of others. There are a lot of privacy laws and rights put into place to protect individuals, and doing something that may seem innocent can lead to serious repercussions. Lastly, bullying and trolling is a serious act against others. The anonymity that comes with being online allows people to make threats, harass, and troll others on the internet. People are very unaware of the possible outcomes that may come to fruition by harshly treating others. Furthermore, people may resort to legal action after they have been cyberbullied or harassed online which could also lead to serious legal issues.
