Writing Reflection 1
These first eleven weeks in university 150 have been a blast! This course helped me so much in writing and I’m grateful. I’ve learned the proper sentence structure for writing along with how to implement it in my own way. Now that I have time to reflect, I am astounded at how much I grew since my first day of class in August. In eleven weeks, I learned to improve my writing technique and think differently towards my word choices.
My overall technique in writing has improved significantly since high school. I learned to look for a lot of mistakes that I never even thought of. For example, I used to change from the first person to second throughout my paper; I never knew that writing had to stay in one particular person. This is a mechanical error in the shift in person and it limits my papers conciseness. I’m glad my professor explained this because my teachers in high school didn’t whatsoever.
I learned word choice in high school, but I never completely understood it. My professor’s (Ms. Skrobacki) informational powerpoint presentations, along with her description helped me further understand. Mistakes in word choice may seem hard to miss but happen most often. For example, the word too and to might be used incorrectly in the wrong setting. As I become more watchful in my writing, these mistakes hopefully won’t be so common.
This course has improved my technique and word choice in writing greatly. I hope to continue to learn and grow from my mistakes throughout the rest of this short semester. With my professors’ teaching, she has helped me more in eleven weeks than my four years of writing in high school. The way she breaks down material in informational presentations worked wonders for my consequential understanding of writing. As I said before, I am grateful for this class.
