Writing Reflection 2
Essay four is the second to last essay for UNIVERSITY 150. The topic I chose for essay four is about essays and research papers and how it is easier and faster for me. In the essay, I described the writing process I use step-by-step. First, I analyze the prompt that was given to me and think of any connections I could make based on my experience. Then, I talk about planning and implementing the prompt by making an outline for the five individual body paragraphs. Finally, I explain my process when revising my essay through methods of proof reading and peer review. The process of making my essay consistent is a specific challenge for me, but writing in MLA format has now improved my overall essay structure.
Consistency is important when writing any essay or research paper. I organize my thoughts before starting the writing process in order for my writing to be understandable. Before I came to college, I was used to “free writing” where I would writing anything that came to mind. Free writing eliminated the effectiveness of my writing by cutting out any organization or thought in my essay or research paper. Now I’m learning from that critical mistake and my writing is more formulated with thought.
This semester of college I learned how to construct my paper in MLA format. MLA maintains the overall structure of the essay, but I noticed it contributes to the consistency of my writing also. I’m glad my professor encourages the use of MLA because my writing is more professional and organized. My professor was very helpful by providing me and my classmates with resources like the website Purdue Owl, so I can look at an example of MLA myself.
To conclude, essay four’s topic of writing essays and research papers had a significant challenge. As being consistent with my thoughts and ideas proved to be troublesome, but I managed to power though it in the end. Learning to implement a new format helped me tremendously so that my paper is professional and well-organized. This semester Iv’e learned a lot and I still have room for improvement in writing.
