How does your major relate to cybersecurity technology?

I am a cybersecurity major here at Old Dominion University. That means cybersecurity technology directly relates to my major. Cybersecurity technology is one of the aspects of cybersecurity. I will be using the knowledge I gain from this class as the foundations for my future studies. This course will give me a basic understanding of cybersecurity technology and how the technology relates to the other concepts I will learn as I continue my studies here at Old Dominion University. The skills I learn in this course will also be vital to my future career in the cybersecurity field. By mastering the concepts covered in this class, I am better able to understand both cybersecurity technology and how I can apply the knowledge to practical, real world situations. However, cybersecurity technology isn’t the only concept that relates to cybersecurity.

There are a few other majors at Old Dominion University that relate to cybersecurity. The first, and perhaps the most obvious, is computer science. While computer science focuses on more complex computer systems, cybersecurity is important for engineers to keep in mind when creating software or applications. The next major is sociology. This relates to cybersecurity as both of these majors have “human behaviors” at the core of their operations. Another major related to cybersecurity is database administration (information systems & technology). This major, much like cybersecurity, requires systems to be properly managed and secured. Cyber Operations is perhaps one of the closest major to cybersecurity. Both majors tackle the same issues but cyber operations is more of an engineering approach to the field. These are just four of the many majors here at Old Dominion University that can be related to cybersecurity. In practice, many majors, if not all, incorporate some aspect of cybersecurity into their field. This statement becomes truer every day as we continue to expand the use of the IoT.
