Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

Since the introduction of computers, they have made our lives a lot easier than ever before. They have also made the world a bit safer. An example of this would be computer systems on boats and large ships. Computers are used to monitor the GPS location and other statuses of the ship. Computers are also being implemented in automobiles at this time. These computers do things like alert you when something is in your blind spots or if you are too close to something when backing up. Computers also help save lives by providing a central and interconnected avenue to share medical information. This gives doctors almost immediate access to information about a patient that could mean the difference between life and death in a very short amount of time. However, computers have also made the world a little less safe in a few regards as well. Cyber criminals are consistently launching attacks against computers and their networks to compromise sensitive data for financial gain. The rapid adoption of computer use has led to a false sense of security among users when using the internet on their computers. Most users just assume they are always safe. Worst of all, computers have given predators access to potential victims much easier than ever before.

How do engineers make cyber networks safer?

Engineers may use a variety of methods and tools to better secure a network. An engineer would most likely install and configure a firewall and wireless access points for a network. Making sure all devices connected to the network are updated regularly and have some form of anti-malware or antivirus software installed are some other methods engineers may consider using. Setting up sufficient authentication methods for access to the network is also a crucial process for securing the network. This may include setting up multi-factor authentication. Perhaps the most important thing engineers do to help fortify their defenses is to regularly test them and patch any vulnerabilities as soon as possible.
