Journal Entry #1

My major for my bachelor’s Degree is Cybersecurity so it is directly related to Cybersecurity technology. I am interested in pursuing a career and furthering my knowledge in the field of cybersecurity and understanding the different aspects of cyber law as well as the threats and how to best prevent them if at all possible. I am still figuring out what specific route in the cybersecurity field I would like to pursue a career in, but the field of study in general is fascinating to me. There’s a vast amount of opportunities in this field because it is forever expanding along with the internet and the pace of technology. My Associate’s degree major was Social Science and that does have some relevant application into Cybersecurity as well. Social Science is essentially the study of how people interact with others, their various habits, and reasonings for their behavior in different environments. This is very useful when in relation to Cybersecurity because in order to ensure a computer or even an entire company’s network is being secured efficiently, we must understand the basics of how people behave in these particular settings and how they could potentially harm the network or any data within the network. Whether it is basic human error or a planned inside threat, understanding how people operate in different environments and situations is definitely beneficial knowledge to have when planning how to best implement the security policy for a given company or business. One avenue I have considered with Cybersecurity Is becoming a Cybersecurity Analyst. This is a position that analyzes different potential weaknesses and threats within a system’s network but it would also apply to the physical setting as well including unlocked doors to server rooms, no cameras in secure areas, and even observing the behavior of staff to detect any issues. This is a position I am doing more research into because it ties together my interest in cybersecurity as well as my interest in how people behave and react in different settings.
