Due to the ever-advancing field of technology, the ability to cause a disturbance in the workplace or even cause damage to the workplaces network or infrastructure has also expanded. With faster computer, smart phones, and various other devices that companies may use, there is a big dependency on technology, which disgruntled employees can fully take advantage of. It could be as simple as an employee who may have recently been terminated still has an active badge to swipe to get in the building so they gain access and either steal or damage equipment owned by the company. Workplace deviance can also be carried out without the staffs’ knowledge. An employee could be checking their social media on their work computer and happen to click on an advertisement or a hyperlink, and now there has been malware or potentially a virus released onto that workplace computer. Depending on the severity of what the employee opened, that device now could be completely compromised and may need to be replaced. In the same way an employee can accidentally open malware on a device, they could also send emails or texts that they either accidentally or purposefully have attached malware to and now it is being sent across the network which could potentially affect multiple devices throughout the company which could be costly. An ever-expanding branch of harassment, cyberbullying, is becoming more and more of an issue in cyberspace in general but in workplaces as well. Employees may say inappropriate things about an individual they work with or about the company they work for and that could lead to hostility in the workplace or even a bad reputation of the company itself which can be an issue financially if a business’s credibility or reputation is involved. Technology is all around us and it makes several daily tasks in personal life and professional life easier, but at the same time opens the door to easily executed attacks and deviant acts that can cause major issues in a business or company.
