When developing a cybersecurity program within a business, you have to consider both the benefits but also the cost of the program as well. The obvious benefits for the cybersecurity program being developed for any business would be that the systems and networks that any business must use would be protected efficiently and would prevent or stop most attacks from unwanted users. With a very strong cybersecurity program implemented, it can become very expensive which could lead to shortcuts in physical security implementations which could be counterproductive. If there are shortcuts taken throughout the physical security that is implemented, then whatever cybersecurity program is implemented ill be pointless if an attacker finds a way into the physical setting. The perfect balance would be weighing out what are the most critical assets as well as what are the most pertinent physical security areas that need to be addressed, then address these most critical areas with the most effective program that fits within the company’s budget. If both physical and cyber areas have been addressed, then it will be much harder for any intruders or attackers to be able to gain access. One of the biggest costs of any program that is introduced into a business for cybersecurity is the implementation of training for all of the staff. In order for any program to be as effective as it needs to be, there should be efficient training given to each employee on what the program is, what it addresses, and how each individual can help implement and maintain this new program and the policies and procedures that coincide with the program. Making sure the staff is trained correctly is a cost but leads to a direct benefit of the company by having staff who correctly maintain and uphold the new program and policies. Another short-term cost of the company would be the downtime needed to roll out and initially implement the program and to ensure adequate training. This would be a short term and temporary cost that if done correctly once, would lead to a long-term benefit in security and long-term gain in profit due to a decrease in attacks and unauthorized access to the network.
