Since computers have become more and more prevalent in our society and most companies, they have brought both benefits and drawbacks to safety.  One definite drawback to computers is that most sites and devices can require a password to access and it is so convenient to set the same passwords for most if not all devices and sites. This is both a human error and a drawback in computers because the individual is capable of making another password but it is more time consuming and requires more memorization than if they are to just use the same password. If this password were to be found out, then all devices and sites the individual had access to have been compromised. An additional drawback would be that because so many devices and computers are connected to the internet, a lot of your personal data is out for anyone to see if they were set on finding it. Many companies and businesses do free trials and do a lot of promotion over the computer and they ask for emails, first and last name, and even addresses and family names which can be info that can be used to find out more about you and your accounts. One major drawback in safety from computers would have to be that because most critical utilities we use in society such as water plants and electricity run a lot of equipment on computers and they are susceptible to being hacked just as any computer. In the past few years, several different electric and water companies have been hacked and been accessed by outsiders and they have wreaked havoc ranging from raising mineral levels in water to dangerous levels to severe power outages. These are systems that are critical to society thriving and with the enough precision and determination, the right hacker group could cripple a small countries infrastructure. Even there has been some drawback, there are definite positives to the introduction of computers into society. Even though passwords are where we as people choose convenience over security, there are many ways now with computers to verify you have access to a system and therefore can ensure your devices and information are secure. There is use of key cards, passwords, and even bio metrics to help ensure that passwords aren’t the only thing to protect your devices and information. Another security benefit of computers is that you can set up different access groups as well on your device so if you have more than one person using the same device, you can limit what they are allowed to access and what files they actually can edit as well. Another strong benefit of computers is that there are several different hardware and software devices available to help secure your system and data so that no viruses or malware can affect it. Computers also help to reduce notes and hard copies of files that may or may not be public information. So if a file needs to be restricted and only accessed by certain people, you can download it to the computer and set up the access controls and then shred the physical copy if needed.
