A Jail visit May Send You To The Hospital
Name: Nurse Carolynn Mann
Position/ Where are they working: LPN/Charge Nurse, Hampton Roads Regional Jail and Lake Taylor Hospital
Degrees: BS Health Service
Something I learned: Is that you don’t have to know everything when you are in a certain job filled, you can gain more knowledge and experience as you begin to work there and grow. Also, the different experiences in working in different environments.
In the interview she gives the differences in sustainability in the jail environment and the Hospital environment. She says that in the jail environment there could be more sustainable practices in place because there is certain things they she doesn’t have access to or just can’t do because she is working with inmates. Some examples of barriers are the food they eat, poor air quality, water contamination, exposure to toxins, inadequate medical care and education. These are all things that could be in place to produce better sustainability. One of her most rewarding aspect of her job is being able to help a patient out and sending them home alive. The most surprising aspect is walking into an unknown situation. The most challenging is part to her is the learning part because she is still learning and some advice she has is you want to be in this field you should have a passion for it.
