1. How do engineers make cyber networks safer?

2. What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?

Cyber network is comprised of plenty of computers interconnected across distances. These networks provide communication between computers and allow for the effective control of critical infrastructures and systems to provide service to its users.  The Internet is defined as the network of networks. The connectivity between the networks is grounded upon the trust between the computers that are connected to each other, which is governed by protocols and software involved in its functionality. Improvements in the security of the cyber network can be attributed to the diligence and hard work of cyber engineers who, as their name suggests, are responsible for the creation and maintenance of its functionality and capabilities. The job of engineers is to design and implement effective methods of communication between systems and users. They secure cyber networks by conducting assessments, penetration testing, development and implementation of secure networks, and auditing security systems. Engineers are armed with their ability to troubleshoot, monitor systems for intrusions, and offer solutions to organizations with regards to anything related to cyber security and awareness. They are commonly comprised of people who have backgrounds in computer science and network engineering. Advancements in technology have changed the battlefield with regards to criminal justice. Cyber-attacks have been evolving and criminal justice has been slowly catching up to the boundaries of cybercrime. Law enforcement have continued to engage malicious actors with the help of engineers and cyber professionals. Interdisciplinary approaches have also been implemented in order to combat the growing cyber threat and its effects on law enforcement. Colleges and universities have begun to construct multiple areas of discipline in order to produce professionals who are able to combat cyber threats with knowledge of the law. The fact remains that laws will have to continue to evolve with the growing capabilities of technology and the disciplines involve will have to continue improving as well in order to counteract the capabilities of cybercrime.
