After rereading and comparing my course expectations with my actual outcome, I believe I’ve achieved what I set out to accomplish. For instance, I’ve gained better inter-personal and communications skills by learning to read the behavior of others. I’ve also learned not to judge a person based on their actions. As a result, my relationships with others have progressed. I no longer judge a person based on perception, instead, I try to understand their reasoning behind his or her actions. As a result, I’ve developed very close my relationships with others. Another skill I’ve learned that has helped me tremendously is reading and analyzing others behavior. This has helped me avoid unnecessary conflict with others.

I’ve learned numerous things during the course of this semester, but three concepts that stood out the most were emotions and behavior, cognitive dissonance, and the glass ceiling effect. Cognitive dissonance refers to a situation that involves conflicting attitudes. For example, a man who smokes and knows it causes cancer. The glass ceiling effect, on the other hand, refers to the barrier that keeps women from rising up the corporate ladder, despite their qualifications and achievements. Lastly, emotions and behavior of Blog three, refers to people’s ability to let their emotions effect their behavior or reactions. For example, in assignment three, Micheal Richard lets his emotions get the best of him by verbally attacking African Americans in the audience of his show after they disrespected his comedy sketch.
Bandura’s Social Learning Theory states that people learn from one another through observation, imitation, and modeling which makes it a bridge between behaviorist and cognitive learning theories due to its ability to encompass attention, memory, and motivation.

There are numerous ways a man can upset a woman. For example, he may fail to clean up after himself, leaving things out around the house. A man can also be demeaning or condescending when he speaks to his significant other. Men can also hurt women emotionally by making them feel under appreciated, taken advantage of, or failing to show a consistent amount of attention. Lastly, a man can upset a woman by trying to control the woman or being the dominant of the house.
There are also numerous ways women can upset men. For instance, a woman may appear to be needy, failing to give him enough space. A woman may also make a man mad by being too independent or cold-hearted. A man is also annoyed by woman constantly nagging their man or being a”drama queen”. Lastly, a woman can upset a man by acting a certain way when they meet and then changing once the relationship progresses.

Self-regulation is one of the three main components of personal skills that make up Emotional Intelligence (EQ). Thus, self-regulation refers to a person’s ability to control and manage his or her emotions and impulses.
To me, Emotional Intelligence is an individual’s ability to identify and manage his or hers own emotions and the emotions of others, and then choosing how he or she wants to respond. For example, a person who is angry may want to retaliate against whoever made him or her mad. However, if the person thinks before he or she acts, he or she will become emotionally intelligent. He or she will also be improving his EQ by being able to think rationally before making a decision or responding off impulse.

After viewing this video, I do not believe this is an accurate representation of advertisements today. Advertisements today try their best to display diversity, including people of different race, sizes, ages, and appearance. Yet, Mrs. Jean presentation focuses on the discrepancies women face in the advertising industry. For instance, advertisements may distort, stereotype, and dehumanize women by only displaying women who were young, beautiful, or heterosexual. However, this is not the case for advertisement industry today. Today, advertisements try their best to display people of all sorts to exhibit an unbiased perspective. As a result, this may increase sales due to advertisements displaying women who look like them or who they can relate to.

After identifying three advertisements, one of three perceived credibility. The first advertisement being the smoker kills advertisement. By advertising a person who has been affected negatively by smoking shows credibility through trustworthiness. Thus, the audience is subject to believe smoking kills due to Shawn’s testimony to using cigarettes. The second is advertisement is a reality television star advertising the athletic company: Puma. I found this advertisement as non reliable due to the fact that she has no personal background in athletics. Instead, she owns a make-up and clothing line. Therefore, I do not believe she’s qualified to advertise athletics due to having no expertise with the product. The third advertisement I found was of a model advertising lingerie. However, I did not find this source effective. Usually, attractive models are used to suggest if we buy their product, we will be perceived as attractive as well, however, it made me feel the complete opposite instead. By only advertising models who are physically fit and well made-up, made me feel as if the lingerie was only for those types of females. As a result, I would not be buying their lingerie.

After taking the first test and receiving my test results, I believe I could have done better. I do not believe I applied myself fully. For instance, I did not complete the entire study guide or go over my notes prior to the test. Instead, I only completed chapter 1 and 2 review questions. I also believe I took too much time on each question, using my full hour and 15 minutes and not having enough time to go back and review my answers. As a result, I do not believe I was fully prepared. Next time, I will not be so careless and will put forth the effort by spacing out the review sheet over the prior week and reviewing my notes for future tests.

My favorite discussion board was discussion board one: Emotions and Behaviors. By participating in this discussion board, I learned that our emotions can influence our behavior in various ways. For example, someone who’s hungry or tired may appear as rude or mean to others, while someone who’s going through a rough patch may appear distant or sad. As a result, I believe in certain situations humans are going to to react emotionally. It’s just up to us whether we act or respond appropriately. For instance, I can’t stand when a person pops their gum. That is truly one thing that gets under my skin no matter what the situation is. However, I’m learning you cannot explode or dislike someone over something so small. Who knew?

As a young girl, I was always taught I could do anything as long I put my mind to it. Until this day, I still believe I’m capable of doing anything and everything as long as I’m willing to put forth the effort. Today, I continue to work hard to maintain my grades by studying and adjusting my goals to ensure I’m on the right track.
My confidence levels have always been high due to having a strong support system. My family has always encouraged me to keep up the good work and expressed how proud they are of me. They have never judged me or put me down. Until this day, they always supported everything I do. Because of them, my confidence levels are everlasting.

Social psychology is the scientific study of the behavior of the individual as affected by other people and groups. By studying an individual’s behavior, scientists can attempt to understand why individuals react the way they do. This can help individuals with future relationships promoting positively and avoiding unnecessary conflict with others.
Based on the course objectives, I hope to gain better inter-personal and communication skills in order to function better in our diverse society. I also would like to become more aware of the differences of others and not be so quick to judge others based on their actions.
In order to ensure success in this course, I plan on outlining the text in my own set of notes and completing practice quizzes and tests. I also plan on using what I learn and applying it to things that happen everyday. Hopefully, this will ensure I have a successful academic semester.
