In this assignment, we were tasked with analyzing the rhetorical devices used within a form of visual or audio media source, related to a topic we chose at the beginning of the semester, in order to understand their uses when developing an argument. This exercise helped to develop my analytical and close reading skills that are necessary in many occupations such as accounting. The topic of the analyzed audio media also relates to my major in that it discusses basic economics and supply and demand and how it can supplying those caught in natural disaster zones with the resources to survive. This assignment helped me learn some news skills, practice old ones, as well as reinforce some of my ideas. For one, I was able to confirm word choice as a rhetorical device as I was not initially confident in it as a device. I was also able to practice paraphrasing and summarizing sources as excerpts were needed as examples for me to analyze. I also learned how to cite a YouTube audio source as well as create its in-text citations, which require timestamps. As I have never cited an audio source before, this was much needed experience that will without a doubt help me in the future.
