During this English course, we were assigned to write a Rogerian Argument paper. The general goal of a Rogerian paper is to present two opposing sides of an argument. For my paper I discussed those who support price gouging laws and those who support their removal. This relates to my major in that it discusses price gouging, which in turn discusses economics. When writing this paper, there were many things I learned including which arguments I can use to compare and contrast two opposing points of view. I was also made familiar with the Rogerian style argument which I have never heard of before this assignment. Something else I learned was how to structure a compromise paragraph which was at the end of this paper. This assignment also helped me to greater understand the opposing side as well as realize how similar events may be interpreted differently to support both sides of an argument. With a greater understanding of those who support price gouging laws, I can now better construct counter arguments that may convince those who may oppose my point of view. This paper also helped me practice creating neutrally toned papers through careful word choice, which can help when addressing an audience with different opinions.
