Nearing the end of the semester, we were assigned a Toulmin argument paper. It required us to argue for our opinion on our semester topic through the use of a minimum of eight sources. My topic was price gouging during natural disasters and I structured my paper to argue for the modification of existing price gouging laws. Through the completion of this assignment, I was able to develop argument formation skills which will help me in any future writing assignments. This was also one of the most challenging papers I have ever written as it was one of the longest at 2000 words. Because of the length, I had to practice creating rough drafts and outlines in order to better organize my argument. I was also able to develop a method of organizing references from sources that works will for me. Meeting the required 2000 words was also difficult to do as I have never written such a relatively long research paper. I also had to practice creating transitions between each argument as well as improve the juxtaposition of each paragraph in order to maximize clarity. This assignment also relates to my intended major as I had to research and understand economic evidence that supported the modification of price gouging laws.
