The Academic Internship I was involved in was through a teaching course. This course introduced me to the world of teaching. The coursed discussed many things, including were the following: diversity in the classroom, the sociological influences in school and how to be an effective teacher. In the course, I was able to go into an elementary school classroom and observe the teacher, the students and the environment.
I will take this role and continue to grow as society does but I will never stop empowered undervalued groups of people. I will make sure all of my future students feel proud of who they are and know that they will be successful.
I have applied many of the skills from my internship into other courses and experiences. I am taking two courses now that involve a practicum. This is when I go into the classroom observe and teach. By having the experience I did in this course, I was better able to work in the classroom. I was prepared on how to act properly, how to interact with students and how to work alongside my cooperating teacher. This internship has also helped in social settings. I have learned to take more time to truly understand another person’s perspective and to respect their opinions. I will continue to use all of the skills and techniques I have learned in this internship into my professional career as an elementary school teacher and in my personal life. The internship gave me an amazing opportunity to begin my journey into my future career of teaching.
