Academic Field
How do you see the knowledge you gained from LeADERS courses and experiences connecting to your academic field? Use specific examples.
I will use the lessons I learned in all of my LeADERS courses in my future classroom. The ideas of inclusion and promoting positive light on undervalued groups of people is something I will reach for everyday.
Application of Skills
What strengths did you cultivate and apply within your LeADERS experiences? What frustrations and challenges did you face during LeADERS experiences? How did you resolve such issues in the short term? How might you respond to or resolve such challenges in the future?
I used my connection with people to understand the different aspects of leadership and how much of a difference I can make in people’s lives. I realized I did not know as much as I would of liked to about diversity and inclusion. I need to be able to pull myself away from any biases I may have and focus on what is in front of me and look at it with an open mind. I tell myself to remain neutral on things until I have as much information I can get and then form an opinion, I also realized that my biases can change easier than I thought they would be able to. I soon hope to make avoiding biases a strength of mine.
How will you apply information or skills you have learned within LeADERS courses to your next steps, whether that be in a professional setting or graduate school? How do you envision this knowledge or skill set being useful to you in other future contexts? Use specific examples.
I will take my knowledge of people, disabled or not, and make sure I hold everyone to a high standard. I will not ask less of any student then I know they can achieve. That is a high standard I set for my future students and for myself. I will develop an even deeper understanding of diversity and inclusion through graduate school. I will use all that I learn from my education courses in my future classroom. I will be sure to make my classroom diverse. Students with different backgrounds, students with special needs and any other unique characteristic will be encouraged and empowered in my classroom.
