Data Breaches

            When companies are deal with a data breach, the most important aspect a company must take is damage control. While this is mainly focused on putting in polices to handle and stop the hacker or malware on company systems, damage control is also for customers and letting customers know that their data has been breached. Through these methods, economic theories and social theories have use.

            In the breach provided, economic theories are used to assure customers that actions are already being taken to prevent future data breaches by using Laissez-fare economic theory. This is letting users know that in this breach, police are already investigating the issue now by getting federal law enforcement. Classical economic theory is also shown to be utilized here when discussing credit card information that was stored and then leaked through the breach.

            For the social sciences of the breach, the company uses psychology to convey how urgent it is for the user to read the paper and to do something about the data that was leaked. Psychology is also used to reassure the user that the company will build up cybersecurity protections with a firm to avoid and develop better policies to prevent a future attack like this from happening again. The company also uses Criminology to display knowledge of laws to the user as well.

In conclusion, the company uses various aspects of economic theories and social sciences to convey to the user that the data breach is an urgent matter that must be dealt with immediately, highlighting that credit card information is greatly at risk from being sold online from other users or even used for fraud. This announcement uses these two aspects well together and provide details and instructions on how to keep information safe.
