The Human Factor in Cybersecurity

Having a good, trained team can make all the difference in the world for a company with their employees. Training employees while costing money, can help them prevent falling for cybersecurity risks like phishing and other forms of malware online through emails. Other cybersecurity technologies can also make all the difference in the world with a company. With antiviruses, encryption, and various other tools, these can also greatly benefit the company and can protect data from rouge employees or hackers online. However there comes the financial aspect of it all with training and these technologies.

Training

While training is costly, there can be amazing benefits of having a trained employee team over an untrained employee team. Phishing is a key example of this. If an employee was sent an email from a malicious source but has no idea if this is genuine or not, this could serve as a great security risk which could mean a loss of data or even compromising the entire system all because of clicking a link or downloading malicious files. Having a trained team can allow them to detect this form of online risks and others without even needing to ask someone about it. With training, data compromising risks are lower and unauthorized software is far less likely. (Travelers 2023)

Cybersecurity Technologies

Antiviruses and other technologies can be greatly influential to the security of companies. Things like encryption, backups, two factor authentication and even user management systems are always vital to have for maintaining a strong secure environment. Encryption makes files and message encrypted and requires a code to decrypt. Sending files and other information can be completely illegible to hackers and unauthorized people with encryption. Having backups of data and other information is always a plus to have when ensuring a company’s safety. Two factor authentication prevents unauthorized users to log into employee accounts and makes them verify that its them logging in. User management systems allows administrators to give access, role people and even remove users from groups for the company.

Financial Factors

With limited money we cannot have all the technologies and training. With balancing the money, I would first start off with basic cybersecurity training and giving exams every month by either sending a false phishing email to all staff or through a little quiz. From the results gathered, I would use that for my next test to either make it harder or easier. I would also run with employees about how to stay safe online and a guide through password and two factor safety. For cybersecurity technologies, I would start off first with two factors on all systems as this adds an extra layer of security to logins. I would also install a good antivirus that isn’t too costly but will still help with dealing with threats. Lastly, I would get encryption of data in the case that we may in the future have a data breach. This ensures that we have the information always locked away through a code or employee access. This combined with two factor authentication makes sure that all data kept away is under two factor protection.

In Conclusion

In conclusion, training and cybersecurity technologies are always very important to a company. Without these parts to cybersecurity in a company, the company would face constant risks like hackers, viruses, malware, and large data leaks. Without training, employees would not have their information secure and a much higher risk of employees having unauthorized access. With a limited budget, decisions are far tougher. I feel the options I picked would keep the company afloat for a long time with training and basic needs to protect data and employees.
