Exploring Culture
VHL helped me the most in this class. I was happy that my purchase of VHL allowed me to go back to the beginning of the book to review Spanish 101. I needed to review my tenses to improve my work. I spoke “broken” Spanish before this class. My dad is Panamanian so he taught me Spanish growing up. As an adult I lost some of my fluency and went into a habit of speaking broken Spanish. I describe broken Spanish as not being fluent half english half Spanish. I will say that Spanish is not spoken the same. Some words that my dad and aunt say are not said the same in this class. I also enjoyed the Culture Videos on VHL.
Interpersonal Communication
TalkAbroad was FUN! I did not utilize TalkAbroad in Spanish 101, so it was new to me. I really enjoyed my second TalkAbroad, she was engaging, funny, and down to earth. We laughed like we knew each other before. Since I am a relatively shy person I appreciate the calmness and patience she had. We talked about what we had for dinner and she told me how she loves the small mangos in Costa Rica.
Presentational Speaking
All of my video entrivistas with my partner were great! We were able to help one another with pronunciations and how to form sentences. We also enjoyed working together.
Interpretive Listening
In every Test and VHL assignment we had audio assignments. The audio assignments could be difficult if you were not confident in the material learnt in that chapter. I would listen to the audio several times to make sure I understood what they said before submitting my assignments. It’s a great way to hear the language you are learning instead of always reading it.
