Reflection Essay

Writing 150 has assisted me in numerous ways this semester. I’ve learned a variety of material in a matter of fifteen weeks from writing activities, completing essay assignments, practicing grammar, and much more that will help me in English 110. I became more confident when I received a passing score on the midterm and that made me believe that I can pass the WSPT. My midterm results really shocked me because I was already prepared to fail because I procrastinated and completed it the day before the due date. The process was a huge burden, but I’ve concluded that working under pressure is what works best for me. Writing journals and essays also helped me to become a much better writer. The more I practiced, the more I learned from my mistakes. I received a passing score for every essay that I was assigned. Though some essays were more difficult than others, I managed to complete them and get a passing grade that I was proud of.

WordPress and the quizzes we had to complete might have been the worst part about Writing 150. I consistently forgot to do all the steps for WordPress and taking the quizzes that came with it is was what made it difficult. Creating a website and putting my work on it seemed like it would be easy. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as easy as it sounds. There were many steps that had to be done just to publish a journal on the front page. As far as remembering to do the quizzes, which included reading the book, that was the hardest part. They were super easy points so I thought remembering to complete them by the deadline would be easy, but it wasn’t as well. Luckily, I was able to complete all quizzes by the deadline or a day before it was due.

Attendance in class was never an issue for me. Skipping was something I wouldn’t personally do. Some days. the thought of skipping would come across my mind because everyone has those days where they just don’t feel like going anywhere or doing anything, but I’m glad I didn’t skip because my attendance was counted as a grade. I don’t believe that I have ever been tardy. It was only one day I know for sure that I didn’t go to class because I had to go back home so I made sure I sent an email to my professor well in advance.

Participating in the class came easy to me as well. My classroom behavior was good overall. At times, I would be on my phone during a lecture, but I would catch myself and put the phone away. The two projects that required us to present in front of the class were overwhelming for me. Talking in front of an audience is a weakness for me because I have a habit of fidgeting continuously, but I’m sure it’s just because of me being nervous. The first presentation wasn’t difficult for me because I was assisted by a classmate. The second presentation was more challenging because I had to present alone.  Although writing 150 prepared me for English 110, the presentations guided me towards public speaking next semester. Overall, taking the writing 150 course came with good contributions as well as difficult challenges. It generally prepped me for multiple courses that may include writing essays as well as oral presentations.
