Journal Entry #1

I have been interested in cybersecurity since I was a little kid, but I believe that the first time I knew that this is what I wanted to do with my life is when I was 14 years old. At the time I was a freshman in high school, and I decided to watch this show called the Green Arrow which is based on a DC Comics Vigilante name Oliver Queen. This show featured different type of superheroes including people like Barry Allen also known as The Flash. But I didn’t want to be like any of them, I wanted to be like Felicity Smoak. And she wasn’t some girl with breath taking superpowers or some amazing backstory. She was a woman who was extremely intelligent and could hack into any system that you put in front of her. I admired how she was able to get a thrill even being behind the scenes doing what she does best. This showed me that the real action doesn’t need to be some crazy crime fighting and that I just need to be me and that my mind is enough. Cybersecurity is required in many different fields. One of the most obvious would-be Risk Management and Insurance, this would be beneficial being that you would know exactly where all of your data is going, who has access to what, and even ensuring the finances of your company are safe and in good hands. Secondly, we have Health Services Administration. This is to ensure that all patients information is confidential and abides by HIPPA laws. Next, we have Human Services because the field is so broad people who end up in social services must be able to protect the information of them and their clients. And lastly, we have Counseling. Counselors also have to be able to protect the data of the patient and/or client
