Hello Dr. Sparkman-Key,

This class was interesting and challenging for me. I was over thinking from the start. My first thought was, what is program evaluation? I also thought, how this course will relate to my goal as a counselor in higher education. Reading the textbook, participating in class activities & peer reviews, PowerPoint lectures, and guest speakers discussing program evaluation experiences helped me to understand the program evaluation process, concept and purpose.

I truly appreciate the way you broke down the evaluation process in tasks. It was a great help. I was able to grasp and apply the process. Completing the tasks reinforced my learning the components of an evaluation, my role in the process, and why evaluations are conducted.

I recently conducted a program evaluation of the General Educational Development (GED) program located in Chesapeake. My only regret was not being able to have a face-to face interview with the program director. I felt like so much information was missing or lacking when she emailed her responses to the questions and answered the follow-up questions. Overall the program evaluation went well. I felt I was successful in creating my research question & researching the agency, the population and the stakeholders. The protocols I chose to assist me in my findings, in my opinion, were very effective. I created interview questions for the director and a student questionnaire for the students. My findings and recommendations of the General Education Development program (GED) are located in my e-portfolio.

In closing, thank you for your knowledge and time spent in teaching this course. Your creative efforts in teaching this course helped me a great deal. I gained more than I expected in such a short time. I am grateful for your dedication to higher education, students, and lifelong learning.

Sincerely,

June Brinkley
