I should honestly write a book about the interpersonal characteristics between dogs and cats. I have 1 dog and 3 cats but they each act like the opposite. My dog perches on the highest piece of furniture, legs crossed primly as he surveys his kingdom. He flicks his tail back and forth in annoyance at perceived grievances of all within the house who do not hold up to scrutiny. I had a hypothesis back when I only had the dog. I have a friendly dog who loves everyone and everything. I figured that if I got cats as kittens, their personalties would take after his and they would all be friendly just like him. Well, 3 cats later and my hypothesis has been proved correct. The cats have loving temperaments and my one boy cat even acts like a little dog. He comes running when you call his name. He looks like Garfield and his name is Donut. All he does is eat so he was aptly named. I had a feeling that the cats were better to get after the dog, not the other way around. Cats tend to become very set in their ways. If you bring a puppy into a house with fully grown cats, they will tend to be mean and spiteful and abusive towards the dog. However, since I got the dog first, I felt that it would be different. Onyx took on the big brother role and now that the cats are grown up, they are one big family. I’ll find them routinely curled up in a little mound, all of them cuddling with each other. The cats groom the dog, and the dog grooms the cats. It turned out exactly as I wanted. How many times does that ever happen?
