Cats are dishonest little rogues. A dog will do dog things but when they get caught, they at least have the decency to look torn up about it. Not cats. These scamps will just fein ignorance or better yet, they lie. Let me paint you a picture so you understand. Every morning, the cats get fed half a scoop. Usually it is me doing the feeding but depending on how late I wake up, my roommate might do it. I walk down the steps and I’m greeted by three feline divas yelling at me for food. They aren’t nice about it either. Some real emotional abuse goes on here. I pour their food and they stop fussing long enough to inhale it without pausing to chew. Now this is a common scene repeated in this house. I wake up, they cry, I feed. No issues, no problems. Except one morning my roommate was already up preparing food when I came down and fell prey to the usual barrage of meows and leg rubs associated with life-threatening hunger. I begin doling out their food when my roommate tells me she already fed them. You know, a lot goes through a person’s mind once they’ve realized they’ve been outwitted by an animal with four legs. Not a good feeling, to be fair. Rather disconcerting. I take one look at these fucking cats and they all just stare at me. The jig is up. They know I know. Lola shows me her little butt as she insolently trots off to snooze upstairs. Nina takes off at a dead sprint in true Nina fashion to go hide under the sofa. Donut, my fat little orange tabby, still thinks he can rescue the situation by continuing his pitiful little chorus of meows. You’d think he was dying it sounded so sad. He’d have been right at home in an SPCA commercial. A poster child (poster kitty?) for the downtrodden and afflicted. I could only wonder how long this scam has been going on. I did kind of think the cats were getting fatter but I thought maybe I was just imagining things. Nope, in reality these cats had been pulling the wool over my eyes for weeks on end. You hate to see it.
