1. What are the costs and benefits of developing cybersecurity programs in business?

There are many costs and benefits that businesses should take into account when deciding to develop cybersecurity programs. Looking over these different costs and benefits will help a business know what can happen if a cybersecurity program is implemented.

I will begin by talking about the costs. One cost of implementing cybersecurity programs in a business is that it could benefit an employee if they go rogue. Employees could become knowledgeable of where vulnerabilities are in the network and could decide to attack them. For this reason, businesses must also have a plan in place in case an employee does go rogue in the future. This could include terminating any access or roles that they may have at the time of their firing. In addition, it could also include ensuring that their badges will not allow them back on the business property any time in the future.

On the contrary, a benefit of developing a cybersecurity program would be that employees could have a better understanding of how to protect data and take their security more seriously. This could include teaching the best password practices, teaching about how to avoid phishing and other forms of social engineering, or even discussing how to use cryptography to benefit their security. This could help improve the overall security of the entire business and be very beneficial.

Another benefit of developing a cybersecurity program would be that employees could learn what to do if there ever is a cyber attack. Teaching about backing up data and how to recover from attacks would also help benefit businesses. For example, it would be a lot harder to recover from an attack if employees are unaware on what to do.

To wrap things up, businesses should definitely take this information into consideration. Even though there are some drawbacks, it is in some ways imperative to implement some sort of cyber program. Finding a way to balance these costs and benefits should be seen as a priority.
