How should we approach the development of cyber-policy and -infrastructure given the “short arm” of predictive knowledge?
I think that the best way to approach the development would be to try to update cyber policies as new technologies arise. I would recommend this because it is almost impossible to guess what new technologies will be available in the future. It would be unreasonable to think that developing new policies with predictive knowledge would be possible.
This does not mean that we should not be on top of developing policies though. As new technologies come out, it is critical that we move with speed to create efficient policies and infrastructure. This way we can stay one step ahead of attackers and other threats.
This is pretty much how things have gone in the past. We, as a society, have generally done a good job at coming up with solutions against cyber threats. These days cybersecurity is taken very seriously and people know what to do to keep their data safe.
I think that as a society we will stay ahead of the ball as we continue into the future. I trust with how the way cybersecurity is taken these days that we will not have too worry as much in the future. It seems like each year devices make it easier to keep information safe, while making it harder for attackers to get what they want. It seems like in the future attackers will have to get very crafty in order to stay ahead of security policies and techniques.
