I’m interested in cybersecurity technology because that’s eventually how we are going to fight crime in the future. Technology is evolving and crime is shifting more and more onto the internet. We now have identity theft and fraud that is getting people who are susceptible to it, like older people. Since I am majoring in Criminal Justice, cybersecurity is an excellent field to go into because of the direction the world is going in. For example, buying items online from Amazon or Walmart, people must put their information from their credit card on there. People putting their information online, they are at risk of hackers getting hold of that information and using it to their advantage, they can even purchase things without their consent. With a rise in cybercrime, the need for prosecutors in cybercrime are going to go up as well. Another reason why I’m interested in cybersecurity and its technology is because I must learn the technology and how it’s developed and what cybercriminals do in its entirety in order to prosecute them effectively. I also have an interest in technology and the information technology field, although I’m not majoring or minoring in the field it is one of my smaller interests with criminal justice being my main interest. Although I’m not entirely sold on that this is the field of criminal justice I want to go into, I would like to explore the field and get a better understanding of it. Since there are other fields, I could go into as well, such as business law and criminal law. Law is not my main field of focus; I would also like to go into the analytical side of criminal justice as well. I could also go into the analytical side of cybersecurity as well and examine what went into certain crimes and how society can combat it.
