Artifact 5: Module Twelve Artifact

Module twelve archive focused on aggression. We were given a list of statements and asked to circle any we believe indicated aggression. For this assignment I learned that there are different forms of aggression. For me personally, what I believe to be aggression is purposely causing harm to something or someone. I don’t believe that aggression is doing something you have to do at the expensive of unintentionally harming others. For an example a doctor giving a baby a shot. Although it may hurt, it isn’t to purposely hurt the baby. Depending on how you’re looking at the situation, it could be seen as a form of aggression. I enjoyed doing this assignment because it shed a new perceptive on scenarios I didn’t see as a form of aggression.

Below I’ve included an image that portrays my takeaway from this assignment, which is that aggression can come in many different form.

Artifact 4: Module Seven Artifact

Module seven archive focused on attitudes and behavior. What I learned from this assignment is that even though I have a certain attitude towards something, I don’t often act out a behavior that pertains to that attitude. I believe that this may be true for others as well, because I asked my significant other to complete the assignment and his results were rather close to mine. The term used in this assignment was dissonance meaning a tension or clash resulting from the combination of two disharmonious or unsuitable elements. After doing this assignment I can see where for me personally this term comes into play for a lot of my daily activities. For example, I know in order to do well in school I must complete my work and turn it in on time, but sometimes even though I know I have something due I often procrastinate and do it last minute. There have been times that I waited to complete something last minute and it took my longer than i thought and i ended up not turning it in on time.

Below I’ve included a cartoon image that portrays the idea of dissonance.

Artifact 3: Module Eight Artifact

My third favorite assignment was archive number eight. For this assignment we were asked to pick two adjectives from a list below that best describe each ethnic group. This was very interesting to me because it is something I have never done or ever thought about doing. We were asked to use the best adjectives whether we believed the stereotypes were true or not.

When comparing my results to Katz and Braly ( 1993) along with Gilbert ( 1951 ) I learned that people can often have the same perception of others despite how different your backgrounds might be. A lot of my adjectives were similar to the ones of Gilbert ( 1951). This showed that stereotypes in my opinion have changed, but not the much overtime. I also learned that most people are often going to pick positive adjectives for their own race and maybe more negative ones for others. As an African American Woman I have so many positive adjectives to say about myself, despite what the negative stereotypes may be. Those adjectives would widely differ from someone of a different race and or background than mine.

Below I’ve included a word bubble that I created of adjectives from the list that I believe best describes myself.

Artifact 2: Module Six Archive

I enjoyed this assignment because it was once again an opportunity to reflect on myself. For this assignment we were given the opportunity to monitor how much your behavior changes from situation to situation. This was my second favorite assignment, because it was simply fun to do. I usually go about my days not paying close attention to how I act or react to things but for this assignment it was a most. After doing this assignment I can honestly say that I learned it is so easy for others to trigger an emotion out of you. Personally, I never realized how much others attitudes and their way of life can negatively or positively affect your mood in certain situations.

We were asked to pick five different personality traits about ourselves and see if they stayed constant during different situations. The five I picked were positive, outgoing, funny, hardworking and independent.

Below I’ve included a picture of my five traits along with five different situations where they were used.

Artifact 1: Module Three Archive

For this assignment we were asked to recruit a few people to complete the similarity leads to attraction version below and a few different people to complete the opposites attract version below. Afterwards we were asked to compare your subjects’ ratings and examine whether both of these conflicting statements are rated to be true.

This is the assignment I not only felt the most engaged with but the assignment that got the people close to me interested in what I’m learning about in the course. Due to the fact that these questions were at random, they were intrigued to answer. The four people I recruited were my mom, my boyfriend a close friend, and my uncle. I have a different relationship with all five of these people, so I figured it would be interesting in hearing what they had to say.

What shocked me the most is after comparing each persons answer, they all believed that opposites attract. When asking why, they all said that when you are with someone who is opposite of you, you can learn qualities that you lack from them. After completing this assignment, I learned that even though every single person i recruited have different personalities, when it comes to rational thinking most people tend to think alike, including myself!

Below I’ve included a picture of a ying and yang with a sun and a moon. This picture is the definition of opposites, but in a way they complete each other.
