An example of a moment where there was activism in a sport was when Colin Kaepernick took a knee on the sideline during the national anthem. Colin Kaepernick was a talented NFL star QB but that was not all he was known for. He was known for taking a knee during the national anthem before a game. He did this to protest police brutality and racial injustice against black people. Colin did this in hopes to highlight racial and ethnic inequalities as well as to encourage a more peaceful and just society. This moment was covered world wide. With how big Colin’s name was this moment was spread like a wildfire. News stations, radio stations, streaming apps all started to discuss the situation at hand and what was going on. When it first happened it was out of nowhere. Because it was out of nowhere there were a lot of crazy reactions to what happened. People did not agree with him at all at first. People saw it as him just taking a knee so they believed he was rude and disrespecting his country and he gained a lot of hate for it. Over time the situation ended up dying down a little bit but was still a topic of conversation in a lot of areas. His reasoning for it and purpose came out and people started to agree with him a little bit more and support him and his beliefs. In this specific situation I believe that the media enhanced the situation and made it bigger than what it was. When it first happened it was all over social media and was spread quicker than any situation like that. The media made the situation a lot more popular and spoken about then the situation would have been in the first place.
