Reflection

Sports communication is a very important topic to cover especially in today’s digital world. This virtual sports communication class has done a tremendous job teaching me about the past, present, and future of sports communication. Throughout this class I have had to do a number of different assignments. Some of these assignments consist of reflections, penpal assignments, group projects, and blogs. These assignments have all helped me connect sports to communication in the way things are portrayed in the media. The penpal assignment we did helped me connect with people in the professional field. I was required to speak with someone with a professional role in some background so I was able to meet a professional strength and conditioning coach. The reflection assignments helped me a lot with separating things I knew versus things I learned throughout each module. Group projects were good assignments because it allowed open discussion with other people about your thoughts and opinions on certain things going on in the sports world and in the sports communication world. A lot of the assignments we did throughout the semester asked you to connect it to society in one form or another. This forced me to have to think deeper about how communication is perceived by the public. I used the social media persona blog assignment to learn a lot about myself and who I am. For that assignment I had to show my social media account and show what my brand is and talk about my marketing styles. That assignment allowed me to learn a lot about myself because I was able to see the brand that other people see me have and I get to critique it anyway I want to make it better. Overall, the virtual sports communication class has prepared me for my future as I try to build my brand as an athlete.
