- The Service-learning activity I participated in is the Ignite Pantry. The community partner I did it with is Ignite. The Two days I participated is 11/13/19 and 11/20/19. The time I went to participate is 3:00- 5:30. My experience was passing out flyers for people to support the food drive at ignite. As well as Re-stocking the food pantry shelves. Placing things in its right category.
- Ignite purpose and mission is to get rid of food insecurity at Old Dominion University. To provide students and faculty of Old Dominion University with nonperishable items. As well as with self-caring products, like toiletries. The needs of the community that ignite address is to provide at least one full meal each week.
- My values on Ignite is that they care for every student and staff member no matter the circumstance. My opinion is that food pantries needs to be more available for those who are in a need. My beliefs are that not only are you helping others around you but your making sure someone is eating and getting the things they need to survive in an everyday life.
- Ignite has impacted my desire to pursue a career in nursing because it helped me realize that helping volunteering to cater to people needs is the same as being a nurse and caring for people’s needs.
- Volunteering relates to my intended career field because I am able to engage with people and knowing how to have a professional conversation. As well as keeping things confidential. Volunteering can relate to Human services. I would choose to pursue in that parallel major because I love helping people mentally, emotionally and physically through their everyday life.
- I spend about 6 hours to study for each class. At the beginning of the semester I was only studying for about 3 hours for each class. My studying habits has change because now I leave my phone on do not disturb and leave it where I can’t see or hear it. I think what works best for me is no distractions. I like to be alone in a quiet place. As well as tacking mini quizzes on the material that I am learning.
- 14 weeks ago, I expected college to be hard and for me to have freedom. The tutoring center is what I found to be very helpful this semester. I found that office hours were unhelpful because I didn’t have enough time in my schedule to go. I wish that 14 weeks ago I knew that the work load in college is something I wasn’t use to. I have learned that I shouldn’t stress, and to take things one by one.
