STEP 1: EVALUATE YOUR STUDY HABITS
- Describeyour current methods of study. How do youstudy for each class? When I study I go to a quiet place? I go somewhere I know I won’t get distracted. I make sure that I eat before I study so I will have energy to stay focus on what I’m studying. Also, when I’m studying I like to write things down so it can stick in my mind for me to remember. I study for 2 hours to make sure I know everything that I have studied about. The way I study for each class is by looking over my notes and reading and taking in the material I was learned.
- What specific techniques do you usein class? The techniques I use in class is to listen to what the teachers are saying because what they point out is what’s most important. Also, I write down the key words and what I think I should write down to remember the material.
- What specific techniques do you use outside of class? The specific techniques I use outside of class is to have someone quiz me. This helps me with the things I need to study more on if I get things wrong.
- Identifyone class in which you are doing well(not HLTH 101). What study methods work best and why? The class I am doing well in is Sociology. The study methods that work best for me is doing the 50 question quizzes the teachers gives twice a week. It goes over the material he is learning and also the vocabulary we need to know the most.
Planning– 1. In History inter to American Past strategies I will start to use is study groups. Also, I want to start going to review sessions.
2.I plan on spending at least for an hour. I need to break the hour up into 2 parts. The first half of studying and going over the material. Have a 15 min break. After that the last 30 minutes I will take a quiz on what I just studied.
- The aspect of the course material I should spend more time on is the key terms that the teacher provides. Something I should spend less time on is taking down notes word for word and just write down what’s most important.
Monitoring– 1. I am sticking to my plan because I know it works best for me. If I don’t stick to it I will not do good on quizzes, test and or exams.
- I am not taking advantage of all the learning supports available to me because I didn’t know how to start because somethings I’m not use to. But now I know the recourses are going to benefit me. The learning services are to help me be successful on any way possible.
- The motivation for me to study isn’t where I think it should be. I need to start having a more structured time schedule. I am taking this course to enhance my education on American past.
4.Confusions I was able to clarify was simply asking the teacher my questions and concerns I had. Also, I learned that I can set up office hours to go and talk to my teacher at certain times if needed.
- I learned that I can set up office hours to sit down and talk with the teacher. Also, I can ask peers, because they may know something I don’t.
Evaluating – 1. An exam preparation I need to remember is to at least study the material 30 minutes at least for each day that I go to the class to insure that I understand the material from each class.
- Something that didn’t work well is that I waited until the last minute to study and cram everything in the night before or the day before having the quiz and or exam.
- I know that some questions can be worded differently from what I studied and that just means I need to use context clues. Read the question and break it down to where I understand it and answer the best way I can.
- Review at least 5academic tips/resources listed here: https://www.odu.edu/success/academic/tips. Which 5tips did you review, and what is one new technique you could try in class to help you better understand the material? 5 tips I reviewed is to sit in the front, ask questions, highlight important items, break down things the way I know is best for me to understand it and write neatly. A technique I can try in class is to not get distracted and tune out the teacher.
- What is one new techniqueyou could try outside of classto help you better understand the material? A new technique I can try outside of class to help me better understand the material is to ask questions when I don’t understand things. Also I need to review the material until I fully understand the material that I have been taught.
