Cyber technology has changed how we work for the better, but it can also make it easier for employees to do the wrong things. For example, when employees gain access to company information, there is a possiblity for them to get confidential information or tamper with digital files for their own benefit. For example, if an employee were to be unhappy with their organization, they could take control over and disarm its security measures if they have the knowledge of how their system operates. Another thing that can happen are the disadvantages of remote working for employees. When someone is working from home and using their own devices instead of company issued devices, it would be hard to tell if someone is working or doing other things on the time that they are paid. Because everything is done online, it would be easier for people to commit deviant behaviors without getting caught right away. Unlike when someone steals a physical item, they could remain anonymous online leaving little to no traces behind. This would make it difficult for authories to find the culprit. To avoid the risks associated with workplace deviance, organizations should have to implement strong safety precatutions and set clear rules regarding acceptable online behavior. An example of something they can implement is an employee training program that can teach workers good workplace habits and make them more aware of their actions. Furthermore, they should encourage their workers to be honest and accountable in order to prevent employees from practicing bad workplace habits. To accomplish this, the senior workers should lead by example and be supportive of their juniors. A supportive work environment can make employees feel more valued and will develop mutual respect among peers in their workplace. Overall, while cyber technology has created opportunites for workplace deviance, it is important for organizations to adapt with their own standards and implementations.
